40-Hour Embodied Yoga Training: Moving with our Grief

Our 40-hour, Yoga Alliance-certified training will be offered in two parts:

- 20-Hour Somatic Healing Training: Growing with our Grief

- 20-Hour Embodied Yoga Training: Moving with our Grief

This 40-hour training is for certified yoga teachers with a desire to explore grief and trauma-informed approaches to movement. The final 20 hours will include asanas, readings, student teaching, and lectures that prepare participants to teach classes and lead yoga workshops from a grief and trauma-informed lens.

Self-Care Saturday

You are invited to our monthly Self-Care group to relax & reset! Come as you are & give yourself time to just be & feel, within a warm and welcoming circle. Life can be soooo busy and overwhelming. It is essential to make space for moving through tension & stress, grief & loss, and navigating the changes in your life. Maintaining healthy self-care practices will increase your ability to manage whatever is happening. Come learn some new tools & meet some new friends. You are always free to engage as you feel comfortable, and move as your body leads. 

Self-Care Saturdays will include:

  • Grounding Yoga & Meditation
  • Somatic Awareness & Movement
  • Meaningful Expression Activities (ex: writing, singing, inspiration cards)
  • Support, Sharing & Reflections

What to bring (all is optional, but recommended for best experience):

  • Pillow for sitting, blanket or wrap (some blankets & mats are available)
  • Journal/sketch book & pen  
  • Special item of remembrance (sacred object or reminder of someone/something you love)
  • Special objects you may be ready to let go of (could be simple as a stone or feather, anything that speaks to you) 
  • Your favorite stuffy (if you like cuddly things)

Growing With Our Grief Workshop

This Growing With Our Grief Workshop led by Amy Pickett-Williams, LCSW, founder of the LIGHT Movement, is a FREE comprehensive three-hour training designed to empower social work, psychology and other mental health students and providers, educators, chaplains, and global healthcare workers with transformative somatic tools and knowledge on grief. Particiapants will explore polyvagal theory and the window of tolerance through engaging lectures that illuminate how these frameworks regulate the nervous system amid grief and trauma.

The training incorporates practical, chair-based experiential exercises such as vagus nerve stimulation, bilateral movement, and practices involving contraction and expansion, as well as therapeutic art to support holistic mind-body integration. By blending the science of grief with meaningful, hands-on techniques, this workshop offers a pathway for fostering personal growth, embodiment, and deeper meaning-making throughout the grief process.

Parking:

  • DU offers accessible short-term parking options for all members of our community.  Visitor parking lots are identified by the color green and a 300-series number on the campus parking map. The closest visitor parking garage to Craig Hall where the event is being held is 301. There is a parking map attached for reference.
  • The kiosk pay stations are located in the Visitor lots and are $2/hour or $10 max for the day. Payment must be made when they arrive on campus.

Growing with our Grief: Understanding the Science and Tools for Somatic Healing

The workshop, created by The LIGHT Movement, is a 2-hour experience designed to help participants understand the physiological impact of grief and learn somatic tools for growth and integration. Rooted in the goals of The LIGHT Movement, the workshop aims to remind participants they are not alone, teach science-based somatic practices to support mind-body integration, and foster meaning-making and purpose in grief. Through an inclusive and supportive environment, attendees explore concepts like contraction and expansion, polyvagal theory, the window of tolerance, and vagus nerve regulation. Practical tools, including gentle yoga, breathwork, bilateral movements, and vagus nerve stimulation, are practiced to empower participants to navigate their grief. Journal through Grief

This class offers a sacred space to slow down, breathe, and write your way through it.

Journal through Grief is a gentle, guided class designed to support anyone experiencing loss—whether it's the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a health challenge, or another life transition. 

Through soul-centered journal prompts, reflective exercises, and compassionate facilitation, you'll be invited to:

  • Honor the truth of where you are
  • Express the inexpressible
  • Discover new journal techniques that collaborate with you to help you move grief out of your body and onto the page
  • Connect with Divine Guidance and Love as medicine to your grief.  

No prior writing experience is needed. This class is about presence, not perfection. Whether you’re in the fresh ache of loss or navigating long-buried sorrow, you are welcome here.

Attendees: Bring your favorite journal and pen, log in to Zoom 10 minutes early, if possible to troubleshoot any technical issues, and join from a quiet place where you will be undistracted for the hour session.

Erin Dworak has been a journal workshop facilitator since 2010 teaching people how to use the power of journaling to navigate the deepest seasons of loss, healing, and personal transformation. With years of experience creating sacred spaces for self-discovery, Erin helps others process their pain, connect with the divine around us, and find meaning through intentional reflection. The LIGHT Path: 300-Hour Trauma & Grief-Informed Yoga Teacher Training

Dates: December 5-10

(4pm Friday - 12pm Tuesday)

Description: Become a Trauma and Grief-Informed Yoga Teacher with 200 hours of training or add on 100 hours of CE to your 200-hour RYT. You'll learn somatic practices, nervous system science, and embodied tools to support growing with grief and healing trauma. It begins with the in-person portion at La Foret from Dec 5-10. Your experience will start with the Grief Retreat (Dec 5-7), then we will move into the Grief training (Dec 7-9), and lastly the Yoga Teacher Training portion (Dec 9-10).

Virtual Dates: The virtual portion of the training goes through November 2026 and is every Wednesday evening and approximately 1 weekend per month. Please see our website for the full schedule: https://lightmvmt.com/trainings/

Who’s it's for: Anyone wanting to become a 300-hour RYT through a trauma and grief-informed lens OR 200-hour yoga teachers who want to become trauma and grief-informed.
